Cooking & Company was formed in 2014 by Chris Sanders and Caroline Henderson. It was a local not for profit community group working with adults and families in Sussex to enable them to learn healthy cooking skills and share this knowledge and enjoyment through eating together.
Their philosophy was that enjoying good food together is a great way to improve health and well- being helping us to learn from each other and reducing loneliness.
Cooking & Company ran lunch clubs at Sanders House and Muriel house and at Barford Court working with people with Dementia reconnecting them to recipes and cooking techniques from their past. They also ran a series of projects for adults with learning disabilities with Grace Eyre and South Down Housing at Portslade Village Centre teaching basic skills and teaching healthy eating.

For the last two years Cooking & company ran a successful cross-generational project at Hazelholt sheltered accommodation in conjunction with Portslade Aldridge Community Academy. (See this short film)
They worked with small groups of students and residents to break down barriers within the two communities and learn about food and diet across generations. This project was funded by Pegasus and will continue with a new cohort of students and residents in 2018-19.
Cooking and Company’s final project was called Food and Stories and brought together different communities from across the world living in Brighton to share and teach important cultural recipes. This project resulted in the production of a fantastic cookery book.
